The Master is the largest offering in the Renault line-up. It is a popular and versatile van offered in a wide range of configurations to suit most needs. It's solidly built and dependable, and the dedicated Renault commercial vehicle network provides a responsive and supportive back-up to keep you on the road. This is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive option, but strikes a good compromise between performance and affordability.
The two or three abreast cab offers a comfortable driving environment with generous
levels of equipment. The gearlever sprouts from the dash, close to the steering
wheel and there's an adjustable arm-rest for the driver.
The steering wheel
doesn't adjust but there's a good range of seat movement. All models get electric
windows, CD player and an on-board computer. Useful options are available including
reverse parking sensors, satellite navigation, cruise control and mobile phone
preparation.
An optional multi-function seat provides a useful storage area below
the cushions.
On the road the Master is a willing driver with assured handling and an optional
air suspension system helps maintain stability under all loading conditions.
All models are offered with diesel engines. The short-wheelbase versions are
offered with a 1.9-litre unit with 80bhp.
Most models though are fitted with
either 2.5 or 3.0-litre capacity units in a range of outputs. There are 100
and 120bhp versions of the 2.5 and the 3.0-litre unit has 140bhp. All models
are fitted with a five-speed gearbox and the two most powerful units can be
specified with a six-speed manual too. The 2.5-litre engine is also offered
with a six-speed sequential automatic gearbox. Finally, the Master range is
mostly front-wheel driven, but there are rear-wheel drive versions offered for
those carrying particularly heavy loads.
